With a concept truck that holds 29 patents, Iveco wants to show how complete sustainability can be realized. A LNG-drive provides the basis.

Iveco-boss Pierre Lahuette unveiled the new concept truck. According to Lahuette, the vehicle combines 29 patents in all, and offers full sustainability. Partners in the realization are, amongst others, tyre manufacturer Michelin as well as lubricant producer Petronas. The futuristic vehicle is powered by a 460 hp LNG-drive (liquid natural gas). A waste heat recovery system after the Rankine-principle (recovery of exhaust gas heat) increases the drive train efficiency by approximately five percent. The vehicle’s air resistance is 30 percent better than that of a conventional truck. Respsonsible for this are casings along the sides and underside of the vehicle. The Michelin-tyres have optimized rolling resistance – optimized also by narrow treads. Furthermore, the cabin is prepared for a new version of the EC-standard 96/53, with which the legislature offers more space for safety measures and aerodynamics. At the same time, Iveco set the cabin’s rear wall back about 50 centimeters and realized an entirely new living- and workspace concept for a one-man crew, including kitchen and shower.
